FORMER BRONCO

NOW A

REFEREE

Former Brisbane Broncos player Jason Hanrahan has come back to the game of Rugby League this time as a Referee.

Jason played with the Broncos from 1988 to 1991 and was in the winning  Reserve Grade Grand Final team in 1990. He made his A Grade debut at the Broncos at the same time as Steve Renouf, however a serious leg injury curtailed his career at the elite level.

Jason then joined Souths in the Brisbane competition and played there in 1992 and 1993 and he was the winner of the Rothmans Medal in 1992 for the Best and Fairest player that season.

In 1994 Jason returned to the Sunshine Coast where he started his career at Nambour and finally hung up his footy boots in 1997.

His willingness to put something back into the game he played resulted in Jason joining the Sunshine Coast /Gympie Referees this year and under the watchful eye of Wide Bay Referees Coach  Bill  Logan he has progressed to Reserve Grade as a Touch Judge and has refereed in junior league to Under 14 games. Logan reports that Jason will be fast tracked as a Referee with a view to making senior grades next season.

The ARL referee accreditation scheme caters for former players such as Jason and provides maximum opportunity for them to be involved at higher grade levels should they so desire.

Any former players interested in refereeing on the Sunshine Coast should contact Sunshine Coast/Gympie League CEO Billy Moore.
